Back in 2004, when the Shattuck-St. Mary's Soccer Center of Excellence was just an idea, it was clear that in order to have a program, the soccer players needed somewhere to play during the snowy winter months. Plans for a dome were drawn up, but those plans wouldn't become a reality until Shattuck alum John Dane '40 pledged a significant financial contribution to the construction. The Dane family legacy at Shattuck-St. Mary's traces back to 1907. John and his brother are proud Shads, and his son Jim graduated from Shattuck in 1969. Additionally, John's other son Jack is a graduate from one of the first classes of Shattuck-St. Mary's in 1975.

The day that the Dane Family Fieldhouse opened, in all of Minnesota, there was only one wider indoor field, and it just so happened to be the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.

During the winter, the soccer teams use the field for training sessions as well as games, tournaments, and showcases. In the mornings, it also serves as a warm place for the Faribault community to walk or jog.

From the main campus: The New Rink is located directly north of the main campus. As you leave Shattuck-St. Mary's, turn left on Shumway Ave. and you'll see the arena a half mile down the road on your left side.
