Girls U19DA Shine at USSDA Winter Showcase

LAKEWOOD RANCH, FLA. - Ten goals, three shutouts, and nine points made for the perfect U.S. Development Academy Winter Showcase appearance by the Shattuck-St. Mary’s Girls U19DA soccer team this past weekend in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.

Beginning play on Thursday, SSM faced Sky Blue - NYSC of New York. Ari Morgan ‘18 put the Sabres on the board in the 53rd minute, and Miya Lennon ‘18 and Sydney Haustein ‘19 followed closely behind with goals of their own for a 3-0 victory. Madison Tuma ‘19 and Bella Dworkin ‘18 provided assists while Charlotte Brisley ‘18 and Sophia Grenz ‘18 backed up a solid defense that allowed only two shots on goal during the game.

Resting on Friday, the Sabres return to the field on Saturday against PA Classics. Ari Morgan, Sydney Haustein, and Madison Tuma all scored first-half goals for SSM with assists from Alyssa Hendricks ‘18 and Akari Shimizu ‘18. Sophia Grenz and Charlotte Brisley once again split duties for the 3-0 shutout victory.

SSM completed their third and final shutout on Sunday as they defeated West Florida Flames 4-0. Halie Reznik ‘18, Ari Morgan, Miya Lennon, and Sydney Haustein tallied goals for the Sabres as Dana Grieme ‘18  and Charlotte Brisley kept things quiet in goal.

The Sabres will return to Development Academy play on March 17 against Indiana Fire Academy in Faribault, Minn.
