FARIBAULT, MN - Second chances don’t always happen in sports, but every now and then a team is given another shot. On Tuesday, the Shattuck-St. Mary’s Girls U19 soccer team found out they had been given a second chance of their own.
Though falling in their State Cup semi-final game, the addition of an extra wild card spot given to the Midwest Regional Premier League put SSM back into the running with a spot at Regionals in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the end of June.
“We are excited for this unexpected opportunity to compete for a Regional title. We felt very unlucky to go out of State Cup, but we all feel like this is a reward for the hard work the team put into being exceptional on the field as well as being outstanding people off the field. They say you make your own luck and I definitely feel that phrase is very befitting of this group because they have worked so hard all year,” said Girls U19 head coach, Joe DeMay.
The Sabres will play on June 23, 24, and 25 at 4 pm in Sioux Falls. For more details, please visit http://regionii.usyouthsoccer.org/regionals/schedules/.
