ROCKFORD, IL - Three wins, nine points, and a number one spot in their Midwest Regional League division capped off the perfect weekend for the Shattuck-St. Mary’s Girls U18 soccer team.
Starting play on Friday, SSM played with dominance against Alliance FC, winning 4-0. Nina LeFlore ‘19, Grace Mancy ‘17, Bella Dworkin ‘18, and Ella Beuning ‘19 all found the back of the net for the Sabres, with Raven Dziedzinski ‘19, Ingrid Engelhardt ‘18, and Ashley Kemmet ‘19 recording assists. Goalkeeper Katie Commins ‘17 played the full 90 minutes in net to record the third consecutive MRL shutout for the Sabres.
A back-and-forth game against Three Lions United on Saturday found SSM down 2-1 with 30 minutes left to play. However, the Sabres fought back with a successful penalty kick from Ana Ginez ‘17 and a header from Grace Mancy ‘17 to emerge with the 3-2 victory after 90 minutes.
In their final game of the weekend, the Sabres defeated Wayne Sport Club 2-1 to complete the weekend sweep. Grace Mancy ‘17 scored her third goal of the weekend on a Dziedzinski assist, and Dziedzinski recorded her own goal after capitalizing on a free kick from Dworkin.The Sabres will return to the road this weekend as they travel to Westfield, Indiana for the Crossroads Showcase.
