Sabres Fall Short in DA Competition

LIVONIA, MICH. - The Shattuck-St. Mary’s Boys U17DA soccer team loaded the bus and headed to Michigan this past weekend to officially begin Development Academy play for the season.

On Saturday, SSM took the field with Crew SC Academy Wolves in Livonia, Mich. In the 15th minute, Logan Haustein ‘19 took a touch of a free-kick rebound with his chest and immediately hit a volley into the top corner to put the Sabres up 1-0 (video here). The Wolves scored the tying goal in the 65th minute and the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute for a final score of 2-1.

Sunday’s game against Vardar saw good possession and promising opportunities to score for the Sabres, but it was not enough as they fell 3-1. Danny Flores ‘20 was the lone scorer for SSM with a free-kick goal from 23 yards out (video here).

SSM will hit the road again this weekend as they travel to Chicago to take on Sockers FC.
