Sabres Control Fire Teams in Home Series

FARIBAULT, MINN. - A mixture of rain, chilling wind, and sunshine set the backdrop for Shattuck-St. Mary’s Boys U17DA soccer games against Indiana Fire and Chicago Fire during Fall Family Weekend.

On Saturday, rain and wind greeted SSM and Indiana Fire as they took the field for their first matchup of the season. Wylie Trujillo ‘20 scored twice as the Sabres topped the Fire 4-1 in DA play. Christian Burkhart ‘19 earned the win in goal.

Not being able to convert on multiple chances led to a 1-1 tie between SSM and Chicago Fire on Sunday. Kainoa (Kupa’a) Fernandez ‘19 scored the lone Sabre goal in the game, connecting on a deep cross from Gavin Pankey ‘19. Christian Burkhart ‘19 earned the tie in goal.

The Sabres will return to play on October 28 as they travel to St. Louis, Missouri to take on Saint Louis FC Academy.
