FARIBAULT, MINN. - The Shattuck-St. Mary’s Boys U16 soccer team took to the field Sunday evening in a state league game against Minneapolis United and they walked out of the Dane Family Fieldhouse as 4-0 winners.
The first goal for SSM came midway through the first half when Alvaro Jacinto ’21 played a Hector Enrique type pass to Jonathan Preston ’21 who rocketed the ball into the back of the net from over 35 yards away. The momentum continued for the Sabres and before the first half expired, Jacinto added a goal to his night by scoring a neatly tucked goal from 20 yards after receiving a pass from Remi Maher ’21. The 2-0 score held as the half ended.
The Sabres doubled their lead in the second half when Marco Filous ’20 flew his body onto the end of a cross from Jacinto, driving the diving header into the back of the net. Minutes later, Jacinto set up his third goal of the evening by slipping in Chris Lee ’21 whose tidy footwork snaked him through a couple of defenders before calmly slotting past the helpless keeper to put the score at 4-0. Goalkeeper Chris Kerr ’21 earned the shutout as he kept things quiet in net for the full 90 minutes.
