Sabres Fall Against Chicago Fire

CHICAGO, IL - The Shattuck-St. Mary’s Boys U16DA soccer team traveled to Chicago this past weekend to take on the Chicago Fire in one of their final Development Academy games.

Though the Fire struck first in the 21st minute, SSM answered a short ten minutes later. Logan Haustein ‘19 played a ball down the right side to Demitrius Kigeya ‘18, who was able to beat his defender and cross the ball for an open goal by Cade Looker ‘20. Darling Ngoh ‘18 and Kigeya combined for a second Sabre goal before halftime, but it was ruled offsides and not counted.

Returning to the field after the half, the Fire quickly scored on a corner kick after a couple deflections in the box. A goal in the 80th minute gave SSM a late rally, but the Fire hung on for a 3-2 DA victory.

The Sabres will play their final home game this Sunday against Minnesota Thunder Academy at 2 p.m.
