FARIBAULT, MN – Before Sunday’s wave of snow descended on Faribault, the Shattuck-St. Mary’s Girls Prep hockey team faced a wave of their own on Saturday – the California Wave U19 team.
Maureen Murphy ’17 opened the scoring for the Sabres with 21 seconds left in the 1st period after connecting with Clair DeGeorge ’17 and Makayla Langei ’17. Brette Pettet ’17 and Avery Dunn ’17 notched two more goals for the Sabres in the 2nd period, with Dunn sealing the 4-1 victory in the 3rd with her second goal of the game.
In net, Aerin Frankel ’17 stopped nine of ten shots and Abbey Levy ’18 stopped six of six.
The Girls Prep team will travel to Winnipeg this weekend to defend their gold medal at the Female World Sport School Challenge, which features the top female hockey teams from Sports Schools in North America and Europe.
