FARIBAULT, MN – Since being named the HCA National Division I Player of the Month in November, former Shattuck-St. Mary’s goaltender Kyle Hayton ’12 has not stopped putting up impressive stats for St. Lawrence University. And those impressive stats have him up for another prestigious award – the Hobey Baker Award.
St. Lawrence University released the following statement upon Hayton’s nomination:
Hayton, who was named to the Richter Award watch list earlier this season, leads ECAC Hockey netminders in goals against average (2.08), save percentage (.934) and saves (766), as well as minutes played, ties and shutout wins. Nationally, he is currently sixth in Division I in save percentage and 12th in goals against average. The Denver, Colo. native has a 14-6-6 record through 26 games played this season.
Hayton is the first goalie in Shattuck-St. Mary’s history to be nominated for the Hobey Baker Award, which is awarded yearly to the best player in college hockey. The first phase of fan voting is open until March 5, 2017 at http://www.hobeybaker.com/vote.
