SSM Figure Skating Starts Strong Season

FARIBAULT, MINN. - The Shattuck-St. Mary’s Figure Skating Center of Excellence has begun another strong season of competitions, test sessions, and performances. Here is some of the latest news from the rink.

 

Newest National Competitor

Congratulations to Morgan Mertz ‘21 for qualifying and participating in the 2017 U.S. Figure Skating (Solo Dance) Championships September 6 – 9. Mertz competed in Colorado Springs, Col. in the Juvenile solo dance event, placing within the top 15 in the country.

Figure Skating Competition Results

The SSM figure skating team concluded their first individual competition from the Midwest region in Vadnais Heights, Minn., September 14th – 16. The nine members of the Figure Skating Center of Excellence proudly took home a total of 14 medals from 17 starts; seven Gold, three Silver, three Bronze, and one Pewter. 

Competitors: Emma Travis ‘20, Marisa Mini ‘19, Katie Johnson ‘20, Morgan Mertz ‘21, Isabelle Congdon ‘18, Tusani Nhleko ‘21, Aiko Shibata ‘22, Catherine Miller ‘18, and Sheldon Gentling ‘21.
